A true trailblazer, innovator and trendsetter, Silvia Tcherassi is one of the leading figures in fashion. She has been awarded one of France’s highest honors –the Officier de L'Ordre Arts et Lettres (Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters), a distinction bestowed on leaders of the international arts community for their “contribution and commitment to cultural service.” The pioneer of the Latin flair—according to WWD—was born in Colombia, on the shores of the Caribbean.
Color-blocking and light layering were among the techniques used in Mark Rothko’s work and an important visual component for Spring 2023. “Similar to Rothko, I am always attempting to create a sort of color field for the expression of emotions,” says Silvia Tcherassi, “warmth, audacity and subtleness were words that continued to come to mind throughout my creative process.” Beyond the Rothko influence, Ed Ruscha’s intrinsic mysteriousness—achieved in his backgrounds through use of color and light—also played a key role in the proposal as did the magical abstractions of Cy Twombly. It comes as no surprise that beyond the aesthetic value of all three artist’s work, their art is also thought-provoking and disruptive in the greatest of ways, adding a deeper layer to their masterpieces.
