Seen through the present-day eyes of Victoria Beckham – who is mother to a teenage daughter – the proposal re-connects with the pure joy of dressing inherent to the exceptional stage of girlhood. Conjuring the characteristic romanticism of rite-of-passage films such as Romeo + Juliet and The Virgin Suicides, a girly spontaneity takes form, conveyed in delicate garments imbued with the erosion and creasing found in a young person’s wardrobe.
